MUNCIE, Ind. (The CI) - DeHority Complex at Ball State University has been without running water for an unknown period of time.
Following claims on social media of water outages at DeHority Complex and Park Hall, The CI reached out to the Office of Housing and Residence Life (HRL) during business hours to speak with a media representative. The call was directed to an automated recording stating the office was closed. The CI left a message seeking a call back.
DeHority personnel confirmed there was a water outage, but it is currently resolved.
“It was resolved at—10:16am is when we got the email about it,” the source said.
Park personnel stated they are not allowed to talk about it—not even their hall director—and to contact HRL for a statement. When we mentioned how we were told by HRL’s phone system that their office was closed, Park personnel recommended we email them, said HRL “should be open,” but doesn’t know if they’re being “flooded with calls.”
The Daily News, a Ball State-owned publication, reported on a water main pipe burst in downtown Muncie on the morning of September 15, 2026. The DN cited the Facebook profile of Cyle Carlisle, who shared a media-free, text-only post at 8:29am, reading, “Pretty sure there’s a water main break [downtown].”
In The DN’s report, video from Kyle Ingermann shows Franklin Street flooded, as two men in yellow vests are in the street.
The DN alleged residents of DeHority and Park received an email that their water was shut off due to “an unexpected water main break,” and that residents “were directed to use the public bathrooms in the lobby of the Woodworth Complex.”
The CI has not been able to independently confirm that the downtown water main break is connected to this matter.
This is not the first reported water issue at DeHority. Students shared screenshots on social media of an unverified email, pointing at an “unexpected water line break[…] that requires immediate repairs” earlier this September. The CI has filed a public records request for the alleged email to verify that incident.
This is a developing story, and we will provide an update if we hear back from HRL.
